UPDATE: All Colleges of Education Closed Over CETAG Strike

The National Commission for Tertiary Education has reached a decision to close down all colleges of Education over its inability to reach a decision with striking teachers.

CETAG is on strike following the association’s failed negotiations with the government since 2012 over the payment of their Interim Market Premiums and Book and Research allowances.

Confirming the news to Kasapa News, Vincent Assafuah, Head of Public Relations at the Education Ministry said “Today National Commission for Tertiary Education has directed various principals of colleges of Education to release students to go home whiles negotiation with CETAG also continues”.

According to him, the salaries of the teachers will not be released because “Labor Commission has already declared the strike illegal and you cannot be paid for no work done. So if your strike has been declared illegal how or why do you want government to pay you for a period where you have not worked”.
