UCC Distance Students ‘fight’ management over percentage increase in Fees
Students of the University of Cape Coast College of Distance Education have challenged the management of the University on a supposed percentage increment in their fees for the 2018/19 Academic year.
According to the Students, they had a 21 percent increment in their fees for the 2018/19 academic year which they claimed had contradicted a statement being purported to had been made by the head of Academic Affairs of the College of Distance Education,Prof. Dela Paul Ahiatrogah, which is quoted to had indicated that the percentage increment was 10 percent.
The students made this allegation during the 11th National Delegate Congress of the Distance Education Students Association of Ghana of the University of Cape Coast at Ho on Friday,November 23,2018.
The students questioned management about a supposed indication that parliament was working on a release of a supposed official amount of money to be paid by students for the academic year.
Late Payment of Fees
The students suggested to management to allow tuition fees’ defaulters to have access to modules after paying a reasonable amount of money .
The students argued that even though students are being denied their modules, they might also be automatically denied their certificates after graduation.
The students called on management to allow defaulters take their modules and make sure they pay the fees before collecting their certificates.
This, the students believed shall make way for students who may not be ale to pay their fees in full to have access to the modules and pay the fees in full on a later date .
Convenience at Study Centers
The students complained about the inconvenience at some of their study centers.According to the students, some of their centers do not have toilet facilities or ,Urinals.
They also complained about the lack of infrastructural facilities at some of their centers, including chairs and fans in some of their lecture halls.
Delay in the Release of Re-sit Results
The students indicated ,that it was unfortunate their re-sit results have always been delayed ,which mostly affects their preparations for their subsequent exams.
