Breaking News: Boat Driver, Mate and 6 Passengers Drown In Volta Lake

The Socio-Political show “Mpu ne Mpu” host of the reigning radio station in the Eastern Region Afram FM 103.3 MHz in the Kwahu Afram Plains South District specifically located in Kwahu Tease the District Capital has heard that there was an incident on the Volta Lake which took eight (8) persons live at 5:35pm on Thursday evening.

Eight (8) persons drowned when a boat capsized on the Volta Lake at a fishing community near Cameroon in the Kwahu Afram Plains North District of the Eastern Region.

The eight (8) were among twenty – five (25) others who were crossing the river from Dzemeni market to their village near Cameroon a fishing community in the Kwahu Afram Plains District late Thursday evening.  

The “Mpu ne Mpu” socio-political show Host Dr. Torgbui Gadeka speaking with the Assembly Member of the area Hon. Raphael Borxa of Anidizi Electoral Area who confirmed the incident said the boat was coming from Dzemeni market and unfortunately met a strong wind which capsized the boat and leading to the loss of eight (8) persons. He added that, the two (2) were children and six (6) were adults which include the boat driver and his mate.

He added that the out-board motor went off and stop working due to the strong wind and too much water in the boat. Fortunately, some people were able to hold some tree stumps and others also swim to save their lives until people came to rescue them. He further made clear that one body was found and other seven (7) bodies are yet to be found.

Hon. Raphael Borxa made it clear that the boat driver who is popularly known as “stone” and his mate are also among those who are dead and the boat can carry about hundred (100) and over passengers but fortunately and unfortunately, they were able to get only twenty-five (25) passengers; seventeen (17) survive from such terrible incident.

In the process of questioning so as if NADMO and the security were present, he stated emphatically that NADMO officials and crime officers of the police service are also present early the next day morning thus Friday for further investigation but the first body found will be send to Donkorkrom Presbyterian Hospital morgue.
